Apples, pears, bananas, etc. are delicious treats in themselves but put a bowl of dip next to a plate of sliced apples or other fruit and watch them dissapear faster than Criss Angel. While most fruit dips are made with cream cheese and marshmallow whip and overly sweet, this dip is made with almond butter, cinnamon and honey kissed ricotta. Good and good for you.</span></div>

Think about it....you wouldn't start your day, go on vacation or show up to a job interview without a plan, right? I used to eat on the go and grab food on the fly...guess where that got me? 20 lbs heavier and feeling pretty crappy about my body.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /><br /><br />So think of meal prep and packing your cooler as your PLAN for a HEALTHY BODY! Your biggest obstacle is going to be managing your time so that getting fit and healthy doesn't compete with the rest of your commitments, like taking care of the kids, hubby or spending time with friends!<br /><br /><br />Believe it or not, prioritizing and planning ahead with <i>actually </i> make life....dun dun dun...EASIER! Not to mention, it will set you up for success in the long term! It may seem trivial but I promise that its worth it! Having everything ready and packed will be less stressful than leaving your meal choices up to chance and heading to whatever take out joint is near by at mealtime! Helllooo muffin top!<br /><br /><br />TIPS: Schedule in time on the weekends to buy and prepare your food for the week! SO WORTH IT! A little time in the store and kitchen on Sunday means for the rest of the week you can JUST GRAB AND GO!<br />***This took me a good 2-3 months to really get a routine down. I actually HATED it at first- I was really resistant to change but once I saw the results...I was hooked!<br /><br /><br />If you are on the go a lot, pack Cook Free Snacks: raw almonds, protein powder, low-fat string cheese, chopped veggies, fruit, ezekiel bread, hummus etc. You can keep little ziplock baggies of almonds in your car so you ALWAYS have something to grab.<br /><br /><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" />GET YOURSELF A COOLER: 31 sells these amazing coolers that fit your snacks perfectly. I always take them with me! Always pack 1 extra snack than you really need! Pack it the night before and grab and go!!<br /><br /><br />Sometimes people will give me excuses about the cost of eating healthy. The fact of the matter is...I spend less money now than I did before when I was buying processed crap. I know it's not just in my head because I track my finances on Mint.com (the most amazing site ever).<br />But even if it did cost more, aren't you worth the investment?<br />NO EXCUSES!</span></div>

If you starve yourself or even if you unknowingly are not consuming enough, you body will go into starvation mode and hang onto fat for dear life. Bikini competition prep: Day one

I have been thinking of competing in a fitness show for three years now. One of those things that lingers in the back of my mind but, never took action to actually complete it. Truth be told I heard so may horror stories of women taking steroids (even in the bikini division) and using diuretics to dry out prior to the show that it turned me off from the sport. I know that this is not everyone and I am so happy that I did my research when looking for a bikini prep coach. After working with a coach in the off season I decided that it was time to find someone new. I wanted and needed someone that health would be their main priority during the process. I do not want to end up with adrenal fatigue or stuck eating chicken, tilapia, and asparagus for 14 weeks.  I am very educated on clean eating... this is what I do so I have that down pat. But, prepping for a show is completely different. It requires tweaks to your diet on a week to week, even day to day basis as you get closer to show time. I am so happy that the coach I am working with gets me and my concerns. He is an IFBB pro but, he is also a Physician's Assistant. Best of both worlds in my opinion.<br />

I want to continue to use my beachbody workouts for the prep. At this time I am using P90x3 and I love it. Home workouts will be added into my program. I am also doing a lot of heavy lifting, and plyometric work at the gym. I can lift weights at home but, will need someone to spot me during my workouts so this is why I will be working out in the gym with my trainer to keep me safe.<br />

The thing that excites me the most is that I have actually worked up enough courage to go through with the process. This is something that I have had on my bucket list for some time now but, just never pursued my dream. I plan to blog about my experience to hold myself accountable and to add my insights for anyone that has been thinking about competing. I know that there are some obstacles that are standing in my way... such as a cruise in March (Thank you Beachbody). However, there is a gym on the cruise ship and I can choose healthy meals on the trip. I am determined to see how my body transforms. I am doing this for me and nobody else. I am a mother of three young children. I am a nurse and also own a health and fitness business. If I can do this then anyone can do this... It is all about your mind frame. Being focused and disciplined.  Keeping your eye on the prize!!<br />

I am use to doing a food prep every week. So this week was no different then most. I made some chicken, grass fed ground beef, sweet potatoes, asparagus, and brussel sprouts last evening. I also cut up some fresh fruit and veggies.... strawberries and peppers.<br />

My trainer gave me the assignment this week to record what I eat and also to record my workouts. He wants to examine my normal routine... food choices, calories consumed, and what exercises I include in my training. I am using my fitness pal to track my food and bought a cute exercise diary to track my workouts. Next, week he will reevaluate my plan and we will start training together. I was playing around last night and had my husband take some before shots for me. I have some work to do but, I am determined to work hard and bring in my best package for the show.</div>

So here we go!!! I am very excited that I made the mental commitment to compete. Now, I just have to get registered for the show. I am doing the Jim Manions NPC Pittsburgh Championship. It is a pretty big show but, go big or go home right;) I plan on registering this week!!! EEEEEEKKKK!!<br />

<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">8 cups low-sodium chicken stock</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">2 cups spinach, rinsed, packed and thinly chopped</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">3/4 cup diced carrots</li>
</ul><strong>Method</strong><br />
<ul style="line-height: 1.4; margin: 0.5em 0px; padding: 0px 2.5em;"><li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">In a medium bowl, combine the turkey, eggs, oat bran, 2 tbsp parmesan cheese, basil and onion.  Shape mixture into 3/4 inch balls and set aside.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">In a large stockpot, heat chicken broth to boiling.  Stir in spinach, carrots and meatballs.  Return to boil; reduce heat to medium.  cook, stirring frequently, at a slow boil for 10 minutes, or until the meatballs are no longer pink.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">Serve hot with the rest of the Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.</li>
</ul><em>So, I thought that the meatballs were to mushy so I would suggest baking the meatballs in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.  Then, add them to the soup and cook the rest of the way.  I would also add additional carrots into the soup!  The soup had great flavor and I absolutely loved it!</em><br />

Soy Sauce<br />
You might think the condiment is just made from soybeans, but many soy sauces have wheat in the mix. Today, a number of brands offer gluten-free varieties, so make sure to check before you buy.<br />

Pickles<br />
Certain pickles are off limits. Depending on the pickling process, malt vinegar may be inside that jar, and malt vinegar in turn is made from barley. Other brands may use corn-based vinegar for a gluten-free crunch.<br />
<br />
Hot Dogs<br />
Of course you know to skip the bun, but the meat itself? Sometimes, depending on the brand. Certain hot dogs - and sausages - may contain wheat gluten, so be sure to read the labels.<br />
<br />
Licorice<br />
The chewy candy often lists wheat flour as one of the first few ingredients, although a number of brands now have a gluten-free option.<br />
<br />
Veggie Burgers<br />
Some veggie burgers -- even some homemade patties -- contain wheat gluten, like hot dogs. Other faux meat products rely on gluten as well, since it can give a meaty texture to these veggie replacements.<br />

Salad Dressing<br />
Your dressing of choice probably contains some kind of thickening agent, a number of which contain gluten. Look out for "modified food starch," since its name doesn't make its wheat derivation obvious.<br />

As an Elite Team Beachbody Coach I received an Elite Sneak peak of the workout this past week!  I received the plyo fix workout!  30 minutes of cardio plyometrics and all I can say is holy moly it actually hurts to sit in my chair today!  The one thing that I truly loved about the workout was the modifications.  They had great modifications that a beginner could truly do.  If you are more advanced then you followed that instructor.  It was positive, uplifting, engaging and I got a great workout!  I am literally going to be sitting at my computer when it's released to order!  I cannot wait for this!</div>
